A MINNESOTA WINTER WEDDING WITH A CATHOLIC MARINE CORPS COUPLE, GORGEOUS CHURCH, & SNOWY OUTDOOR PORTRAITS
Sarah and Nick met at a picnic the beginning of their Junior year of college at Iowa State. Nick recognized Sarah, and they found out they grew up 10 minutes away from each other in Minnesota. The two started talking, and eventually went on a coffee date where they sat and talked for 3 hours (!!). They spent 2 years of college together, and 2 years long distance while Nick was active duty in the Marine Corps. Sarah went through RCIA with him as her sponsor, and together they have been growing strong in their faith preparing for their romantic winter wedding.
To start off the day, Sarah & her bridesmaids got ready at an adorable downtown Airbnb. I can’t choose if my favorite part was Sarah looking out the window shots (her veil!!), the flat lay on the hardwood, or her beautiful maids being so, so excited for her.
THE WEDDING MASS
Sarah & Nick’s wedding mass was at this lovely small town, Minnesota parish, the Church of St. Anne.
A huge ask from most of my couples is to take some natural, but artistic portraits of just the two of them in the church before we (usually) go outside for more portraits. Sarah and Nick chose to include this moment in their timeline immediately after signing their marriage license. They were accompanied by one of the happiest-looking priests. These photographs tend to be some of the most shared, most printed, and most loved.
One benefit of a winter wedding is that golden hour is usually during afternoon portraits, like this wedding. The sky and the lighting were so pretty this day and complemented the lightly snowy ground in front of The Jerome Event Center. We took bridal party photos and then I got to steal Sarah and Nick for a couple of quiet moments before their wedding reception, beautifully decorated with small Catholic details.
I simply cannot put into words all of the things I loved about this romantic winter wedding reception at The Jerome. But, if I had to try I’d say: the bride and groom’s heartfelt thank you speech, the dusty blue accents in honor of Mary, the little kids showing off their dance moves, the bride’s mom and siblings joining the second half of the father daughter dance, the groom dancing with a tiny baby, a really perfect little white cake, and some guy on his back on the dance floor lol.
