A DARK, RUSTIC, CATHOLIC LENT WEDDING IN MICHIGAN FEATURING A BLACK BRIDAL GOWN WITH FOREST GREEN ACCENTS

Cilicia and Keenan met on a Catholic Facebook meme group and became friends over their shared sense of humor. They got engaged during the 2024 Easter season and decided to get married during Lent of 2025 to honor the idea of marriage being a death to self. It was an honor to be invited into their lives and their Catholic Lent Wedding.

Cilicia’s black dress was so gorgeous and an incredible representation of the season of Lent. I love it when my couples are so passionate about their faith that they push past the “social norms” of a wedding to serve a greater purpose: sharing their faith with their guests and the world.

The wedding mass was at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a super cool reimagined parish that used to be a blank brick box in the 80s. They had one of the holiest liturgies I’ve ever had the privilege of photographing.

Who wouldn’t love an intimate reception at Hilltop Views Farm. Surrounded by goats, your favorite people, and a speech from your sister that has everyone in tears?

After emotional speeches, Cilicia and Kennan cut their cake and watched a special dance. They danced with friends and family before a sunset session… and a little more time with the goats!
