When Ashleigh and Arthur were both first year medical school students, Arthur “just happened” to show up at Ashleigh’s home parish. He also “just happened” to save her spot amidst the packed pews. One Mass turned into an invitation for coffee, then a library room reserved to study, and eventually a first date. Not long after, these two were caring for patients together, a glimpse of the shared vocation God had in store for them.
Ashleigh and Arthur said “Looking back, we see God as the clear author of our story—writing it with far more grace, humor, and intention than we ever could.” Keep reading to see how that first mass together, now led to their nuptial mass.
This wedding was truly was a day that felt so authentic and lived in. That feeling is one of my favorite parts about capturing Catholic weddings. The mass isn’t a production, it’s the ultimate sacrifice of love on full display. Watching Ashleigh & Arthur bask in the love and blessing that the Lord has given them, brought so much joy to myself. Some of my favorite moments include Ashleigh’s uncle who is a deacon, sharing in their newlywed joy by giving them a massive bearhug after the mass. Or when Ashleigh showed her grandmother that she wrapped her rosary around Ashleigh’s bouquet. Or that after their vows Arthur was so overcome with love for his wife that he couldn’t help but shed a tear.
A few more moments after mass to bask in the beauty of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, because with stained glass windows like this – you absolutely have to take some portraits.
Then onto a grand evening at Pittsburgh Grand Hall, which used to be a church itself! The night was complete with a big first dance twirl, speeches with big laughs and tears, and a sparkler exit to send off the two newlyweds! Truly, an authentic and joyful Catholic wedding day!
